Why you should flea treat your house as well as your dog
7th October 2019
Fleas can settle in your carpet and soft furnishings, so it’s important to treat your house as well as your dog for your best chance of eradicating them. If you just treat your dog, then any fleas that have settled round your home could keep landing on your dog, making them harder to get rid of in the long run.
Clean thoroughly
Wash your dog’s bedding regularly and vacuum your home often. Steam clean carpets and soft furnishings where fleas could be nesting. Wash removable furnishings such as curtains and cushion covers in the washing machine. Additionally, flea sprays designed specifically for your home can be purchased, which might help to get rid of fleas in your house.
Repeated cleaning
If you are suffering from a flea infestation in your home, repeated cleaning may be necessary in order to get rid of the fleas thoroughly. So, even if you washed some cushion covers a couple of days ago, wash them again to be sure that you’ve removed all traces of fleas.
Don’t delay
Once you have discovered fleas on your dog and you have started to give your pet treatment, start treating your home straight away for the best chance of getting rid of the fleas quickly. Delaying cleaning your home could mean that it takes longer to get rid of the fleas that are bothering your dog.
Year-round treatment
Fleas can be a problem at any time, so keeping your home clean throughout the year is important to ensure infestations do not recur. Flea eggs can remain dormant for some time, so even if your dog isn’t currently affected by fleas, cleaning your home can remove the eggs which might hatch at a later date and cause problems to your dog.
