Pet doors, not just for cats

When we think of pet doors we tend to think of these being just for cats, however they can also work perfectly for smaller dogs.

Dogs are unique, they come in all shapes, sizes and mixes, so when buying a pet door for a dog to use, it is important to understand the measurements to ensure they will fit through comfortably.

We recommend looking at the dimension of the narrowest area of the pet door and create a template to visualise the space your dog must fit through, to make sure that it is wide enough for their shoulders.

Whether your pet door is for your dog or cat, you should look to choose a selective entry pet door. This is like giving your pet their own door key, using the unique ID of their existing identification microchip or RFID collar tag to unlock the door only for them.

If you have a small dog, it’s a good idea to get a SureFlap© Microchip Pet Door as it has selective entry and a curfew mode so that you can keep your dog indoors at night if you wish to. For your dog to be able to use this comfortably they should be able to fit through an opening of 178mm wide x 170mm high.

The SureFlap© Microchip Pet Door Connect is the same size and also has selective entry and a curfew mode, however in addition to this it is app-connected and helps you keep track of when your dog enters the house, with notifications when your dog uses the door and usage reports meaning you stay better informed anytime, anywhere.

In addition to small dogs, the SureFlap pet doors also work perfectly for cats that weigh over 5kg and larger breeds such as Maine Coons or Bob Cats, this alternative cat door option provides a wider and taller tunnel, offering more space to accommodate larger cats comfortably.

SureFlap offers easy outdoor access, letting your pet follow their routine while you follow yours.
