Common health issues that can show in your cat’s drinking behaviour
1st July 2022
Cats are carnivores and highly effective when it comes to utilising the water provided through their food. Unless on a dry or semi-dry diet or living in hotter conditions, they can cover most of their water intake through the meat they eat. With a seemingly low requirement for water, a cat’s drinking or drinking pattern isn’t on every pet owner’s radar. In a Sure Petcare survey* from 2020 over 67% percent of cat owners admitted that they couldn’t give the vet an accurate answer about how much their cat drinks each day.

Kidney disease is the most common cause of death in cats of five years of age or older. The disease presents itself through an increase in drinking. If you want to ensure early detection of kidney issues in your cat, then you should monitor your cat’s drinking for any changes.
Felaqua Connect™ is a unique water delivery and drinking monitoring system for cats, allowing cat owners to keep track of their cats’ drinking via the Sure Petcare App, while the smart water delivery system provides the cat with a source of fresh water.
Each cat is registered to Felaqua Connect via their microchip, enabling the device to record each registered cat’s drinking behaviour. With this information, detecting short or long-term changes can be much easier.
Felaqua Connect has multiple cat-friendly features, including a wide, shallow bowl made from a water repellent material that mimics a natural puddle and presents water in a more appealing way.
The water is kept fresh in an air-tight, gravity-fed reservoir that releases water into the bowl as it is needed, requiring little power, no pumping, and no filtering. Because the device is battery powered, there are no cables or need for an electrical power source, so the device can be placed in any part of the home to best meet your cat’s drinking requirements.
