SureFlap Microchip Pet Door Connect gives peace of mind when away from home

Little Cat is 13 years old and lives with her owner, Rosina. Previously a feral cat, she adopted the family, and stayed with them, three years ago. Little Cat has a history of fighting, possibly due to her previous life, and often has intruder animals in her territory which she finds very stressful. Rosina fitted a SureFlap Microchip Cat Flap two years ago to stop unwanted cats coming into the home, moving onto the SureFlap Microchip Pet Door Connect more recently.

Since having the SureFlap Microchip Pet Door Connect installed, Rosina has been able to identify changes in Little Cat’s behaviour, on one occasion leading to a visit to the vet.

Rosina, why did you choose the SureFlap Microchip Pet Door Connect?

When Little Cat came to me, she was a bit of a fighter and we decided to install a SureFlap Microchip Cat Flap to stop other cats from getting in and so that we could keep Little Cat inside.  We have a lot of intruder cats in our garden and Little Cat is very protective.  We also regularly feed a fox and we wanted to keep her inside to avoid further fights.

We moved on to the Microchip Pet Door Connect after it was referred to us and love the added peace of mind that we can look at Little Cat’s behaviour and comings and goings. There’s also lots of children playing in the cul-de-sac that we live in, so it is good to keep her inside when the play gets boisterous outside.

What is your main use of the Sure Petcare app?

We have used the app mainly to monitor her activity in and out of the home. We love the Meow function, which has meowed loudly in some very funny places!

When we have been away on holiday, we have left her with cat sitters and it is comforting to see how she is getting on when we are not there.  Sometimes Little Cat is not familiar with the cat sitters and I worry that she will not take to them.  The app enables me to keep an eye on her. As she is an older cat, she is very set in her ways so I know her usual patterns and it is easy to see changes, if they happen.

Have you noticed any changes in Little Cat’s behaviour since installing the Microchip Pet Door Connect?

One morning, shortly after installing the Microchip Pet Door Connect, I noticed that she was acting stroppy.  She was not eating and flinched when I touched her.  I could not see any blood or physical injury and she was not going out as often as she would do.  I checked the app and noticed that she had been out for two hours the previous evening, something that was out of character for her as she normally doesn’t go out at night and, if she does, comes back in quite soon after.  I took her to the vet and they discovered that she had five puncture wounds in her leg which had probably been caused by a fight.  We were able to treat her pretty quickly and would not have been able to do so without my understanding of her habits and the information that I had received from the app.  Since then, we have used the curfew mode to keep her in at night.

How did Little Cat take to the new Microchip Pet Door Connect?

She had no problem at all.  She had previously used the Microchip Cat Flap and got used to both of them quite quickly.

Would you recommend the Microchip Pet Door Connect?

I already have!  Our pet sitters and visitors to our house are in awe of all of the Sure Petcare products!  We also have a SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder as well as the Microchip Pet Door Connect and have been showing it to everyone.
